Hibs A win first League Title
Bangor Hibs A 2-1 Crossmolina
Bangor Hibs won their second trophy in as many weeks when they claimed the Premier Division B title as Partry Athletic defeated Castlebar Celtic B and Hibs defeated Crossmolina to leave Hibs eleven points clear at the top with only three games remaining. Sean Noone's name will go down in history for Hibs as he was the man to secure the title when his stoppage time goal ensured they collected all three points against a determined Crossmolina side with a two goals to one victory in Ballybeg Park. Hibs took the lead on sixty minutes with another goal from ace marksman Brian McHale when he finished from twelve yards to score his twentieth league goal of the season. Crossmolina did not give up and equalised on eighty two minutes but it was to be Hibs day when Noone got on the end of a cross from Shane Murphy to score from five yards out to secure his sides first League Title with more or less the last kick of the game.
Hibs A crowned Tuohy Cup Champions
Partry Athletic 0 - 3 Bangor Hibs A
Brian bags brace as Bangor bag the Cup By David Tuohy in Milebush ParkBangor Hibs proved far too strong for Partry on Sunday afternoon, as two Brian McHale goals and one from Sean Noone put the game well out of reach of their opponents, who lacked an element of cutting edge in attack. The warm, humid conditions at Milebush were not ideal, and it took quite a while for the two sides to acclimatise and start playing their best football. The opening quarter of an hour saw little in the way of creativity at either end; there had been some neat passing in the middle of the field, particularly between Partrys Jamie Wall and John Kennedy, but neither goalkeeper had been tested. The game was given the burst of excitement it needed after 18 minutes, when Hibs took the lead through McHale. The prolific striker showed his class when he collected the ball in a central position outside the box, before firing a low shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards. This Bangor goal had a dramatic effect on the tempo of the game, and both sides began to play in a far more flowing manner for the remainder of the first half. Partry threatened in the 23rd minute when Ciaran Hennelly and John Paul Sweeney combined well on the right wing, but Sweeneys low cross from the byline was hooked clear. Shortly afterwards at the other end, Neil Donnelly bravely put his head in the way of McHales goalbound free-kick, deflecting it away for a corner. Anthony Coyle came close to doubling Bangors advantage from the subsequent corner, but couldnt steer his header on target. The tension was building around the half-hour mark, as Hibs pressed for a second goal; Kyle Holmes and Darren McManamon were working hard in midfield, while McHales pace was a constant problem for the Partry back-four, but they were coping well. That changed after 34 minutes, however, when Sean Gintys sweeping delivery from the left flank was poorly dealt with, allowing Sean Noone to sneak in at the back post and fire a powerful half-volley past Barry Finnegan. It was a pivotal moment in the contest, Partry now had quite a lot do to if they were to haul themselves back into contention, but responded well, creating a number of scoring chances in the 10 minutes prior to half-time. Partry forward Kieran Hennessy came very close to halving the margin with a glancing header which whistled past the far post after 38 minutes, and this was swiftly followed by chances for Ciaran Hennelly and Jamie Wall. Pressure was mounting on the Bangor defence and Partry even had the ball in the net two minutes into injury time, but John Paul Sweeneys header was deemed offside. It would have been the ideal time to pull a goal back, but Bangor Hibs two-goal lead remained intact at the halfway stage. The second half began in much the same manner, with Partry putting some good moves together, but for no reward. While their spirited efforts were admirable, Partry could not sustain this pace, and their dominance soon gave way around the hour mark. The leaders took control of proceedings once more and once the Erris outfit had re-asserted their dominance, it was a relatively simple task to keep hold of the ball, as their already flagging opponents tired. They effectively sealed the win after 65 minutes when McHale slipped behind the Partry offside trap, and showed great composure to round the goalkeeper and finish into the empty net. The third goal took a lot of the urgency out of the game and Bangor closed out the remaining 25 minutes with relative ease. McHale continued to threaten, and clipped the outside of the post with a superb 25-yard free-kick in the 73rd minute. Partry had exhausted all creative options, and though they couldnt be faulted for effort, there was no way past the excellent Hibs defence, where Gary Sweeney and Cormac Murphy were more than capable of soaking up any pressure that came their way. The differences between the sides in terms of physicality in midfield and pace up front proved the difference on the day, and these assets meant that Hibs deservedly took home the silverware after a first-rate team performance. BANGOR HIBS: Michael Gaughan, Shane Murphy, Sean Ginty, Gary Sweeeney, Cormac Murphy, Darren McManamon, Kyle Holmes, Anthony Coyle, Andrew Lavelle, Brian McHale, Sean Noone. Celtic B 3 - 2 Hibs A
Castlebar Celtic B 3 - 2 Bangor Hibs A
Bangor Hibs A were cruelly denied a share of the spoils in Celtic Park today when the home team struck in the 90th minute to claim all three points in this Premier B fixture.Cormac Murphy put Hibs ahead in the 13th minute but sloppy defending had Celtic B level just one minute later. The home team went in front just before the interval to leave it 2-1 at the break.Jimmy Flannery introduced Barry McAndrew and Ronan Cuffe on 65 minutes and Hibs grabbed a leveller 5 minutes later when Sean Noone netted from close range following a Darren McManamon corner. The game looked to be heading for a draw but Celtic grabbed that late winner to bag the points. This was Hibs first league defeat of the season and with four games left and an 8 point lead at the top the team know that two wins will definitely secure the title.Next up for Hibs A is the little matter of a Cup Final next Sunday in Milebush v Partry and major improvement and indeed urgency on todays performance will be required if the Cup travels to Ballybeg Park.

Hibs B out of Connacht Gold Shield
Bangor Hibs B 1 - 5 Conn Rangers A
Hibs B crashed out of the Connacht Gold Shield at Ballybeg Park this evening going down 5-1 to a very slick Conn Rangers A team.Hibs created 5 excellent first half chances but the failure to registeron the scoreboard proved costly.Rangers went in 1-0 up at the break but it was the home side who had the better of the first period. The visitors grabbed a second on 56 minutes but substitute Jason Healy had Bangor back in the game on 65 minutes.Hughie Kennedy's charges threw everything at a rock solid Rangers backline but to no avail. The visitors scored three well executed breakaway goals in the final nine minutes to leave the final scoreline 1-5. HISTORY
A BRIEF HISTORY
Founded 1995 Home Colours - Blue and Black Away Colours - Black and White
Bangor Hibs Football Club was formed in the North Mayo village of Bangor Erris in 1995.Bangor is situated on the banks of the Owenmore river between Crossmolina and Belmullet.Soccer had always been extremely popular in the area and attempts had been made in the mid seventies and mid eighties to organise the game on a structured basis but to no avail. In 1995 though this was to change.A team from the village was invited to a tournament in Killala in January of that year and ended up playing against a number of established Mayo League sides with results been more than favourable. The team reached the final of an 8 team competition and although losing out to Crossmolina in the decider the talk throughout those weeks was can we find a field, get a team together and play in the Mayo Association Football League.Meetings were called and reasonably well attended, a committee was formed and then the real work began. The inaugural officers of the club were Gerry Deane, Gerard Sweeney, Tommie McHugh, John Rock Carolan and John Cosgrove.1995 saw the club compete in a local Erris organised league and although our initial application to the Mayo League later that year was unsuccessful we were admitted the following year in 1996 which was the first time Mayo played summer soccer.By that stage our lotto was up and running, funds were coming in and the purchase of a pitch was completed from a local farmer Mrs. Neary.Indeed the Bangor Hibs lotto was the first in the country to reach the then legal maximum of £10,000.Following the pitch purchase our next target was the construction of a Clubhouse and this became a reality in the next two years culminating in the official opening of our facilities, Ballybeg Park, by Mayos own President of the FAI Mr. Pat Quigley on August 26th 2000.Our clubhouse consists of changing facilities, toilets, kitchen and upstairs t.v. lounge with full size championship snooker table for our members enjoyment. This year 2011 the club is embarking on another development venture with work underway on a 50 m x 35 m synthetic playing surface. On the football field we have also made our mark with the winning of a Mayo U 12 boys Final in 2001, 3 Mayo U16 Cup final victories in 2002, 2003 and 2005.Currently we field two mens teams. The A Team are competing in the MAFL Premier B and the B Team in the MAFL League 2.The Hon President of Bangor Hibs is Mr. Miomir Jugin from the Serbian capital Belgrade. You may wonder how so?Its a long story but suffice to say post ending up inadvertently at our club secretary Gerard Sweeney was the beginning of a life long friendship with the Yugoslav Airlines engineer who follows Hibs passionately along with his other team the mighty Red Star Belgrade. The clubs other international connection is with our good friends in Cheshire, England Brendoon FC who, this August will travel to play Hibs in the Brendan Conway Memorial Cup for the ninth time.Brendan, son of Johnny and Mary Conway (formerly Bellacorrick and Geesala) lost his life following an accident in September 2002.The match is held annually in either Bangor or Cheshire.CLUB OFFICERS 2011Hon. Club President - Mr. Miomir Jugin, Serbia.Chairman - Mr. JP Healy.Vice Chairperson - Mr. Hughie Kennedy.Secretary - Mr. Gerard Sweeney.Treasurer - Mr. Tommie McHugh.Assistant Treasurer - Mr. Jimmy Flannery.PRO - Mr. Kieran Gallagher.Junior A Team Manager - Mr. Jimmy Flannery.A Team Captain - Mr. Cormac Murphy.Junior B Team Manager - Mr. Hughie Kennedy.B Team Captain - Mr. David Conroy.Bangor Hibs FC - June 2011
